Send requests to the Governor to request eminate domain and landmark The Brockway Center.   https://www.governor.ok.gov/contact-us/request-help

The @carecenterokc Board has voted to move forward with the demolition of the historic Brockway Center. They were granted a permit for this by the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services' Capitol-Medical Center Improvement and Zoning Commission despite the recommendation of the Citizen's Advisory Board and Northeast OKC's desire to preserve this important Black space. Additionally, there is an option for the Care Center to swap land with the OKC Urban Renewal Authority to build without destroying the Brockway Center, yet the consensus to demolish it was still made by the Care Center. -
The erasure of historic Black spaces in Oklahoma is a traumatic epidemic that has gone on for far too long. It is disturbing how the Commission did not make the general public's interest a priority over private property owner's interest, and is contributing to the annihilation of Black cultural assets in our city. Furthermore, it is highly unfortunate that an organization primarily ran by women would seek to demolish a culturally significant and relevant place dear to other women. -
It's still not too late for the Care Center to do the right thing and save the Brockway Center by taking the land swap option. -
Make your voices heard by contacting the Care Center's Board president, Scott Stemmons, at sstemmons@udtonline.com and cc: maroonhistory@gmail.com  and ask for the Care Center to take the land swap. Share this post so your friends are aware and use hashtag #backingbrockway.
